  • New Media Cultures - VJ's and DJ's.

I believe we can see the expanse of music into our every day lives in every shape and form. Nearly without fail throughout ones daily life you will hear a mobile phone going off. Originally just a "Beep beep" sound but now as technology has progressed these sounds have advanced into complicated sounds. The second wave of technology broughout about polyphonic ring tones, in which sounds were created that resembled "real" music. Now we have mobile telephones which can produce sounds that resemble songs exactly.
This technology in recreating music into every day lives is not left in telephones. Cards are being produced that have sounds in them. At first a rare card could have been found for someones birthday, which sang "happy birthday" in a monotone voince. Now cards can be found for all occassions which have singing or messages read out. These cards are also to be seen in both physical and electronic form on the internet!

I believe that music is progressing, bands such as Anal Cunt are pushing the boundries of what was once though acceptable. Anal Cunt were founded in the late 1980's. They pull together very heavy guitars and abusive lyrics. The music is not totally new, with artists such as Cannibal Corpse and others producing heavy music in the early 1990's aswell, whereas the lyrics, I believe, are pushing what people think can be said. It has been said that they're songs aren't serious and are just produced to make a statement and push the boundries of political correctness. The following song is "Hitler was a sensitive man", a good example of Anal Cunt in action. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2RAw04w6r7Y&feature=related

The expansion of music is not only found in original music, more and more tracks are being produced which are based or sample original sounds. In 2005 the Cillit Bang advert aired on television. Within a few months a remix had appeared on the internet, now this remix has been produced onto CD and vinyl for purchasing. http://www.cillitbangremix.com hosts the products. This example of turning one product for consumption into another, a product for personal enjoyment can be seen increasingly.
Samples of video games are being found in music. Super Mario brothers can be found regularly thanks to its unique sounds. There are many examples, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Opi4WsKH1CM is one of the better.

Many new artists are utilising old songs and manipulating them into their own. Aphex Twin can be seen doing this to the David Bowie track Heroes. http://www.mp3tube.net/musics/Aphex-Twin-Heroes-Symphony/43272/ . I believe this is only a good thing as it introduces new audiences into both aspects of the music.
